Dental and Vision InsurancePaid Vacation, Sick, and Personal Time403b Retirement Plan with Employer Contribution/Union Pension contributionsLongevity Bonus ProgramEducational AssistanceLow-cost meal programPOSITION SUMMARYAs a member of the Programs Department, the Garden Program Coordinator maintains an active gardening program for the residents by overseeing the Scott Garden, managing indoor and outdoor planters, creating programming for the Health Care Center and assisting with private resident gardens as appropriate.
The Garden Program Coordinator may be asked to collaborate with the Facilities Director by supporting landscaping services for The Redwoods' grounds as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMaster Garden certificate or equivalent horticulture background preferred.
Experience as a local gardener required.
Must have your own transportation for purchasing garden supplies.
Specialized knowledge of organic vegetable and flower gardening, composting, vermiculture, integrated pest management, and fruit trees.
Prior experience working with seniors preferred, including an understanding of therapeutic methods applied to gardening activities for the frail elderly.
Organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate gardening activities for elderly residents.
Verbal communication and personal skills required to successfully interact with and engage residents, guests, and garden volunteers.
Ability to work independently while functioning as part of a team.
Basic computer skills.
Demonstrates proficiency in clear and effective English communication, both verbal and written, coupled with a strong ability to comprehend and execute instructions accurately in various formats.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Able to do gardening activities such as lifting (up to 50 pounds), raking, hauling, weeding, and shoveling.
Physical demands include stopping, bending, turning and stretching, moving equipment, and walking.
Must have full range of motion.
Physical health and stamina equal to the demands of the job.
Manual dexterity required to handle equipment.
Must be able to walk distances equal to the length of the campus (approximately 5-7 acres).
